Whenever possible your family doctor is your first point of access for care. A virtual appointment may be right for you if you or a loved one have a medical issue that is NOT life threatening, but requires medical attention.
Part of Ontario’s publicly funded health care system, virtual care ensures that everyone has easy access to the best possible care when and where they need it. Virtual appointments with your doctor are covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). Direct-to-patient video visits and telephone appointments allow physicians, health care providers and patients to connect safely at a distance
Benefits
Virtual care can help get you the most convenient, timely and best care, with less time spent away from the people and things that really matter to you. eVisits are often a time-saving and convenient option. There is no cost to patients. eVisits provide the same level of care as you’d expect with an in-office visit, as well as the opportunity for family members or other caregivers to participate in your care if appropriate. And the interaction is safe and private, with sensitive information transmitted through a secure network, and all the information from your eVisit is recorded in your medical record. When things like time off from work, childcare, and parking make accessing care challenging, eVisits can help.
There are more and more virtual options all the time, the list below is a starting point and not all inclusive. Make sure that the service is in Ontario and covered by your OHIP card. Some online options are out of area and may be out of pocket. Not all conditions can be treated at a virtual appointment and in person follow up may be recommended.
